For over a decade, the White Helmets have saved lives, cleared rubble, and rebuilt hope in Syria. Now, we’ve been called on to protect something else under threat: our shared history.
From the ruins of Palmyra to the charred halls of Damascus Castle, Syria’s extraordinary cultural heritage has suffered devastating damage from years of war. Irreplaceable sites and artifacts, once symbols of resilience, beauty, and civilization, now face collapse, looting, and neglect.
At the request of the Directorate for Antiquities and Museums, the White Helmets are launching a new initiative to protect and preserve Syria’s cultural heritage. Drawing on our experience in mine clearance, engineering, debris removal, and firefighting, we are stepping in to make endangered sites safe and accessible again.
Your donation can help:
- Remove mines and explosives from historic sites
- Survey and assess damage with modern tools like drones and 3D scanning
- Clear debris to recover materials and reveal hidden history
- Clean and stabilize museums and fire-damaged structures
- Install protective infrastructure to shield sites from future harm
- Train staff in fire prevention and emergency response
This work is about more than stone and structure. It’s about memory, identity, and the future of Syria’s communities. By helping us safeguard these sites, you’re helping Syrians reclaim their cultural roots and rebuild what war has tried to erase.
Make a gift today to protect Syria’s cultural heritage for generations to come.
